Embossing rolling pins are not only great for display, they are also functional and make delicious, gorgeous cookies sure to delight any cookie lover. Making embossed cookies with your embossing rolling pin can easily be achieved in a few easy steps; make your sugar cookie dough, roll our dough flat, roll the dough with your embossing rolling pin, cut out your cookies, bake, and most importantly, enjoy!

1. Make Your Sugar Cookie Dough

Mix Your Dough

Embossing rolling pins tend to work best with sugar and short bread cookie recipes.* Humble Elephant® has done a lot of recipe testing to find the best recipe and methods to make embossed cookies.

2. Roll Your Dough Flat

Roll Dough Flat

Roll your sugar cookie dough flat, about a 1/4" thickness. It's best to work with dough that is still cold and a bit firm. If your dough is room temperature and warm the dough will stick to the embossing rolling pin and the embossed patterns will not be optimal.

3. Roll With The Embossing Rolling Pin

Once you have your dough rolled flat, firmly push and roll your embossing rolling pin over the flat dough. Apply even pressure during the entire roll.

Tip: Sprinkle four to your rolled out dough and to the embossing rolling pin. If dough is sticking to the embossing rolling pin, add more flour to the rolled out dough rather than the pin.

4. Cut Out And Bake Your Cookies

You're now ready to cut out your cookies! Using a cookie cutter, cut out the embossed dough. Place the cut out cookies onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet (the parchment paper keeps the cookies from stick to the pan after baking and makes clean up a breeze!).

Place the baking sheet with cut out embossed cookies in the freezer for 10-15 minutes. Freezing the cookies before baking helps hold the embossed pattern.

Place the frozen baking sheet in the oven. Bake sugar cookies at 300º F for 5-8 minutes, or until lightly brown on the bottom.

Place cooked embossed cookies on a cooling rack.

5. Enjoy!

Once you're cookies have cooled, pick up one of those scrumptious embossed cookies and enjoy!

Make sure to share your creations with your friends and family to show off your new baking skills!
