DIY Cookie Dough Gifts in Mason Jars

Raise your hand if you love cookies during the holidays! That’s what we thought. Since cookie love is pretty universal, a Mason jar filled with pre-measured dry ingredients and capped off with a  reCAP FLIP Mason jar lid makes a sweet gift that everyone will enjoy! Give the filled Mason jars away as gifts, or tuck one away for your own family for later. All the recipient has to do later is add the wet ingredients and bake.

As a bonus, if you use a reCAP FLIP Mason jar lid, your Mason jar gift can be repurposed after the contents are consumed. Also since all of the cookie kits are easy enough for little hands to scoop and fill, you can get the whole family involved! Just don’t eat up all of the M&M's first.

Here are 4 Mason Jar dessert recipes:

HOT CHOCOLATE CAKE MIX

Ingredients:

  • 1 Box Devil's Food Cake Mix
  • 2 Eggs
  • ⅓ Cup of Oil
  • ½ Cup Mini Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • 1 Cup Mini Marshmallows

  • To Package For a Gift:

    1. Pour the cake mix into a clean, regular mouth Mason jar, gently packing the mix down.

    2. Next, add the mini chocolate chips in an even layer on top of the cake mix.

    3. Pack the mini marshmallows into a snack-sized ziplock bag, removing as much air as possible before sealing the bag.

    4. Fold the bag and add it to the jar.

    5. Cap off the jar with a reCAP FLIP and add one of our holiday gift tags!

    6. Attach the following baking directions to the jar.


    Instructions for baking to include with Mason jar:

    1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

    2. Empty the cake mix into a mixing bowl and add the eggs and oil.*

    3. Stir (or mix with a mixer) until blended.

    4. Add the mini chocolate chips.

    5. Using two small spoons, measure out and shape each cookie into a small ball and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

    6. Add three mini marshmallows to the top of each cookie, pushing them lightly into the raw dough.

    7. Bake for 8-9 minutes. Be careful not to overcook and burn the cookie!

    8. Remove and allow to cool for a minute before removing the cookies to a wire rack to completely cool.

    9. Store in an air-tight container; separate cookie layers with wax paper to avoid sticking.

    M&M COOKIE MIX IN A MASON JAR

    Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup M&M's
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • To Package For a Gift:

    1. Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a small bowl.

    2. Pour into the bottom of a 1-quart Mason jar (I rolled up a paper plate to use as a funnel).

    3. Top the flour mixture with M&M's, dropping them in lightly so that they don't sink into the flour. Top the M&M's with brown sugar, and then granulated sugar (you can use a spoon to carefully scoop the sugars into the jar).

    4. Cap it off with a reCAP FLIP Mason jar lid and add one of our holiday gift tags!


    Instructions for baking to include with Mason jar:

    1. Pour the contents of the jar into a large bowl and stir to combine.

    2. Add 1/2 cup of just barely melted (not hot) unsalted butter, 1 beaten egg, and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. Stir until combined.

    3. Chill for 30 minutes.

    4. Drop dough by the heaping tablespoon onto lined baking sheets and bake at 350°F for 8-10 minutes, until the centers of the cookies are just barely set.


    OATMEAL CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

    Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • Ice cream scoop (This will help you pack each layer down to ensure all the ingredients fit in the jar!)


  • To Package For a Gift:

    1. Pour the rolled oats into the Mason jar.

    2. Now add the white sugar, chocolate chips, and the brown sugar (in that order). After each sugar layer, you’ll want to use your ice cream scoop to pack it down a little more. Finally, pour in the flour, baking powder, and salt together.

    4. Cap it off with a reCAP FLIP Mason jar lid and add one of our holiday gift tags!


    Instructions for baking to include with Mason jar:

    1. Preheat your oven to 350º.

    2. In a medium bowl, mix together 2 eggs, 3/4 cup softened butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla.

    3. Grab your jar and pour the entire contents into the bowl and mix well using your hands.

    4. Place heaping tablespoons of the mix onto a non-stick cookie sheet (about 2″ apart).

    5. Bake for 12-15 minutes.


    CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

    Ingredients:

    • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
    • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
    • 3/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
    • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
    • 1 1/2 cups (9 ounces) semi-sweet chocolate chips

    To Package For a Gift:

    1.Combine flour, baking soda, and salt in small bowl.

    2.Place mixture in 1-quart jar.

    3.Use the back of a spoon to pack the flour mixture down around the outside of the Mason jar.

    4.Add the brown sugar next using the same method to pack it down in the Mason jar.

    5.Finish by adding the sugar and top with the chocolate chips

    6.Cap it off with a reCAP FLIP Mason jar lid and add one of our holiday gift tags!


    Instructions for baking to include with Mason jar:

    1. Preheat your oven to 375 º

    2. Beat ¾ of a cup (1 ½ sticks) softened butter or margarine, 1 large egg, and ¾ teaspoon vanilla extract in a large mixer bowl until blended.

    3. Add cookie mix and mix well, breaking up any clumps.

    4. Using a tablespoon or ice cream scoop, drop scoops of dough onto ungreased baking sheets.

    5. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes, remove to wire racks to cool completely. Makes about 2 dozen cookies.
